When it’s served you so well, why change it?

Motors and generators manufactured by these heritage companies are still supported. In fact the design and engineering records for many of these machines are still available. This legacy enables CHASE to offer repeat “plug and play” replacements of historical products.

The Impak, Flowpak, Unipak and I range motors, developed in the 1970’s, 80’s and 90’s in both Bradford and Rugby are such heritage products. These robust, multi-functional, high power factor-low power cost ranges of cage induction machines, although developed and targeted for the Oil & Gas/Petrochemical Industries were also very successfully supplied into the more general industrial applications within the Power Sector, Metals & Mining and Water Industries to name but a few.

Capital spares can be easily supplied and we are able to source equivalent spare parts wherever necessary, to extend the lifecycle of these machines.

We are committed to supporting our customer’s in the effortless replacement of replica motor solutions which will straightforwardly exchange with existing drives, saving you both time and expenditure.

When it’s served you so well, why change it?

    What are thermowells made of

For many applications stainless steel is the most cost effective and suitable material, however for corrosive or erosive environments more resistant materials are more cost effective.

The issue with thermowells made from inadequately specified materials in a harsh environment is that they quickly fail to protect the temperature sensor inside, leading to wrong or no temperature measurement. Replacing the sensor and the thermowell requires the plant, such as a boiler, to be shut down, leading to loss of production/uptime.

Our manufacturing partners for high performance thermowells, BKW Instruments, were in the process of turning these Stellite6 bars into thermowell tips when we visited their plant in Manchester. Stellite6 is particularly resistant to erosion and is therefore the material most suitable for harsh environments like the pulverised coal dust supply for power station boilers.

Only Western European material suppliers are used to ensure guaranteed origin and can provide 3.1 Material Certification giving chemical analysis. They also have the capability to do Positive Material Identification (PMI) testing to ensure genuine supplies and to reverse engineer materials when diagnosing failed components.

    how long is a thermowell

This roof mounted thermowell is 3m long! It was manufactured by our partners BKW Instruments, based only a few miles from CHASE HQ in Manchester, England.

Some applications require the thermowell to pass through a thick wall, like the refractory lining in a high temperature boiler. The first metre might be the thickness of the boiler lining and the remaining two meters are to take the tip of the thermowell, containing the temperature sensor, to the bottom of the boiler.

This extra-long thermowell is part of a set to measure the temperature at the top, middle and bottom of the boiler. This allows the plant engineer to monitor the performance of the boiler accurately at all levels.

BKW manufacture thermowells in a range of materials, specific to the temperature and the environment of the application. Stainless steel is appropriate for many applications however corrosive or erosive environments require materials such as Alloy600, Alloy800, Monel, Hastelloy, Titanium or other specialist alloys and coatings.

They are designed for people who require an understanding of the impact that changes in operation can have on operation costs, plant availability, valve reliability, controllability, maintenance intervals and life time expectancy.

The workshops are aimed at enlightenment and are not simply a ‘sell’ of products etc, rather an understanding of fundamental and innovative designs solutions to known problems within the process industries.

    Valve Innovation and Optimisation Workshop

I am interested in receiving more information about the workshop.

Changes in power station operational demands, in recent years, have produced significant impact on plant operational costs, with an emphasis on valve reliability and overall station efficiency, maintenance and valve controlability. We discuss in detail how we can offer an alternative view on advancements in preferred materials and innovation in valve design all being impacted on by dual shift and stop/start requirements.

The workshop provides a unique insight into the commonly occurring problems with dual shifting (stop/start) power plants. These include the impact on both isolation and control valves.

Many design, project and maintenance engineers have benefitted from Valve Innovation and Optimisation Workshops by applying the knowledge gained and understanding preventative measures that can be applied to reduce plant down time, operational costs and increase station efficiency.

    Programme

    In addition to OTC Valves your workshop will also cover;

    • Control Valves
    • Attemperators/Desuperheaters (Cooled)
    • Bypass stations, HP, IP, TAL
    • On/Off Valves
    • Drain Valves

The program included opportunities to discuss specific topics and asks questions.

This educational event is offered free of charge to engineers working in the power industry. Participants are responsible for their own travel arrangements and costs.

If you would like more information about this event, please complete the form, send us an email to source@chaseint.co.uk or call our UK Head Office on +44 (0) 1925 755221.
